Shonen Knife live, On Top of The World at a pizza place

Spirit Hall, Pittsburgh, PA, USA, September, 04,2018

By Daniel Locke

Well, I have been in this part of the country for almost 3 years. And until now I have not had the chance to check out any local bands in Pittsburgh, PA.
I have the change to cover the Japanese girl band Shonen Knife, at Spirit Hall in Pittsburgh PA on September 4 for a pre-tour warm up to their upcoming North American Tour. Alive! In the USA 2018 tour. The tour started out in Buffalo NY (home of their label Good Charamel Records) and ends in San Diego, CA.
One thing I noticed they are playing a lot of food places. Like many of their songs Everyone like food.
On the bill were a total of three bands. Joining Shonen Knife that night were local girl fronted bands Garter Shake and Murder for Girls.

Garter Shake

Becki Gallagher – lead vocals, guitar, keys
Jenn Jannon-Fischer – guitar, vocals
Maura Jacob – bass, vocals
Steve Gardner – drums
This band is fairly new and still developing their sound. But  I did like there version of I wanna to be Your Dog their first LP came out this week.

Murder for Girls

Jonathan Bagamery, bass.
Michele Dunlap, drums/ vocals
Stephanie Wallace, guitar/vocals
Tammy Wallace, guitar/ vocals
The band is full of raw energy. But still, fun to listen to.

Shonen Knife

Naoko Yamano Voice, Guitar
Atsuko Yamano Bass, Voice
Risa Kawano Drum Voice
I have seen Shonen Knife maybe ten times over the years. And I feel that this time in Pittsburgh was their best show ever. They played together well and the crowd loved it.
