Interview with Minx

Interview conducted on April 28, 2019

by Dan Locke

Minx’s brand of ‘inclusive feminism’ shines through in her stunning new track ‘Female Dirtbag’, an ode to a powerful breed of women who know what they want and how to get it, as you can see from her Dave Chappelle inspired cover for the single.

‘Female Dirtbag’

Sexy, funny lyrics delivered with smooth and sultry aplomb are fast what is giving Minx her name. Produced by Cooler Ruler Divine (Onyx, The Lost Boyz, Sean Price) it’s a perfect pairing as Minx’s love for classic Hip Hop from the ‘Golden Age’ is strong and this is undoubtedly a smooth Boombap banger

Dan Locke: You are an MC from the UK. why did you decide to become an MC?

Minx: I consider myself a lyricist a poet and a writer. I have been fond of creative writing since I was in primary school. I remember one day my mum coming to pick me up and I was alone in the classroom, deep in creating an imaginary world, writing this short story. I didn’t want to go home. I write poetry, I song write for other artists and I’ve written a screenplay I’m going to bring to life this year. Writing is a big love of mine. It’s limitless, boundless and therapeutic.

How did you pick your name?

Minx

My Ma always called me a ‘little minx’ when I misbehaved. It was more of endearment than a scolding though so I have fond feelings towards it. I also love the letter ‘M’.

I was doing a bit of searching on YouTube. I maybe saw a half dozen band with the name MINX?

Yeah. Look for MINX4MUSIC on YouTube

You are a register as a member of SESAC (SESAC is an invitation-only Performing Rights Organization that represents the world’s top songwriters, composers, and music publishers.) How did you become a member?

I was bought to the office by my last manager (Amaury Michel) I had a panel listen to my tracks and decide if I was SESAC material.

How did you go about to create your first public work, “Bars and B.L.T.”?

Eat a lot of sandwiches

What is it about food?

It’s a beauteous necessity.

What is the best sandwich you ever had a fast food chain?

I don’t really eat in fast food chains, when I’m in NYC you can get some serious sandwiches from the delis. I’m a big fan of the spicy turkey breast. Also any Mexican spot you can get a ‘Torta’it’s a monster full of pork belly, beans, avocado…the list goes on…

Do you cook?

I love to cook

Tell me how to cook your favorite meal?

I’m not giving away my recipes. But my signature dish is Brown stew chicken with rice and peas.

You spend a lot of time between London and NYC. How do you relax?

Minx

I like to watch live music. I like hanging out with my dog, we run together. I’m a nature fan so you’ll find me in parks. If I need ultimate RnR I go to my family home in Ireland. That’s paradise to me.

On your Facebook page, I saw a few photos with you a mannequin. What is the deal behind that?

That’s my boyfriend from the video for ‘Love You,I. You can watch it on youtube and it’s available on all digital platforms.

How was it to perform at NYC Pride Parade last June?

It was two years ago now…it was phenomenal. A great experience for a great cause.
What is your life performance like? It is effervescent, I grab my crotch. It’s my favorite part of being an artist.

Who would you like to do a mix with?

Mf Doom or Stevie Knicks

Any plans for a tour?

I got a project to release then will be rolling,

How do you see yourself in five years?
