RICHMOND, VA – Milky Chance took the stage at Brown’s Island in Richmond, Virginia on Tuesday, July 18th delivering an energetic and mesmerizing performance to showcase their 4th studio album, “Living In A Haze.” They are currently on a 66 city tour with alternative/indie band Young the Giant featuring Rosa Linn. Rosa Linn was supposed to open the evening’s show but unfortunately did not make an appearance due to a losing her voice, according to an insider. The internationally acclaimed German duo, Clemens Rehbein and Phillipp Dauschalso, began as two high school friends making music in Kassel but launched into stardom in 2013 with the release of their single “Stolen Dance” which now has over 1.2 billion streams on Spotify. Their sound incorporates influence from reggae, folk, pop, and electronic music that is truly unique, captivating, and infectious. They are now joined by guitarist Antonio Greger and Sebastian Schmidt on drums and percussion.

Fans packed in on the island, fold-out chairs and blankets in hand, facing the sweltering heat, but the heat didn’t stop them from dancing. Milky Chance turned Brown’s Island into an outdoor Euro-club with entrancing beats and an exhilarating performance. By the time the train rolled by the stage, the crowd was pumping and the band played the train out, before exploding back into the chorus of “Stolen Dance.” They made sure to excite fans by also playing their more recent hits “Synchronize” and “Colorado” that even got the behind-the-scenes crew moving.

Their live musicianship was impressive, and their signature sound was immediately recognizable along with Clemens’ ionic voice. Clemens’ was very personable on stage as he interacted with the crowd asking them questions or holding the microphone out to the audience to have them sing the lyrics back. Both the bass and electric guitar were Squire Stratocasters which I don’t always see but sounded incredible throughout the island. Clemens’ played an acoustic/electric Taylor guitar that was able to bring to life their acoustic versions of their songs.

With the rain finally holding out for the day and an energetic performance that captivated Richmond, I don’t think there was a better way to spend a Tuesday evening. We are all crossing our fingers for Milky Chance to make their way back soon.
