Null Positiv

Interview conducted on December 13, 2019

Even with their first albums have stirred up a lot of dust zero positive. Fat guitar riffs and drums crass hit a lead singer that appears from a completely different planet. Change growls and screams confident with hard rock vocals and soulful calm tones. There seems to be nothing that singer Elli Berlin do not like or can. And that is lived with an irrepressible dynamic at every show. Always on the fine line between sexy lady and the trend-warrior. For flat and clichéd statements are not the thing the band. Zero positive understands music even as a mouthpiece with real content.

Started zero positive in 2015 without winning the lottery or record company but with a sack full of musical ideas, huge talent and inner knowledge exactly this kind of music live to want. the idea quickly took shape. There were songs written and recorded in-house and public. There were also music videos in a quality that is rarely found. The click-through rates gave quite the band, Zero Positive got more and more popular.

Dan Locke: Elli what type of musical influence did you have growing up?

Elli Berlin: My first self-bought album was Korn – Life is Peachy. I liked it hard. And then came the festivals where I found Slipknot, Papa Roach, Marilyn Manson, Linkin Park and Prodigy. Too bad Chester Bennington and Keith Flint had to leave us. May they rest in peace. Maybe I’ll share my hit list on Spotify, then you can hear what’s inspiring me today.

How did you get the band started?

Since I’m 16 I earn my money as a singer. It was a hard time, sometimes we had 150 shows a year. But it was a good school. As a child, I had several different vocal training. Today I am thankful for that. I love touring life. But the first years made me strong. With 13 I made my first recordings in a professional studio. That was funny.

In 2015 I started to look for likeminded people who were willing to work on powerful, modern music, which was the path I felt that my musical career was determined to continue. It was an exciting and emotionally agitating time, not knowing what the result would be and in which direction the project would eventually go.

How your band did get its name?

0+ is one of the most common blood types. Because we all share it flowing within our bodies and it being essential in keeping us alive, we believe that this is synonymous with the general equality we believe in. Furthermore, it also translates to the mindset within the band, lyrically and musically. We believe in telling things how they are, without sugar-coating stuff and digging deep into the sentiments, good or bad, that motivate or prevent people to do things. We do this intending to rouse people, to give the initial spark to start to deal with the problems that we as humanity are facing in modern times. Our Song KOMA is an example of this. We see ourselves as warriors supporting this idea, only that our “weapons” are our instruments and they “fire” with music and emotions.

Elli, what do you listen to in your spare time?

I listen to a lot of music. All the time, actually. Everything that is new and exciting. Mainly metal, but not exclusively.

Last year you broke your backbone. How did you get yourself back in sharp?

It was a very difficult time. But I was very lucky. Also that my band believed in me so much that they were loyal to me. So I had enough time to get well again. I usually love sports. But in this situation, I first had to keep a lot of calm. It was only after a time that seemed endless to me that I could start exercising again.

What is the strongest song you perform in concert?

That is hard to say. For me, a concert is like a single explosion. I go on stage and come back down. In between, it feels like a single energetic song.

How do you stay healthy on while touring?

Our longest tour was almost three months. And as nice as parties and fun are, you also have to bring a lot of discipline with you. So we started to integrate a daily fitness program on tour. But that’s sometimes very funny.

Any plans for doing any touring in the United States?

We would very much like to give concerts in the USA. We receive inquiries from many cities every day. Unfortunately, it hasn’t happened yet. But if the right promoter or concert organizer calls us, we come.

Thank you for your interest in our band. My English is not perfect. But I hope your readers understand me anyway 🙂
