BleedSkin is a Death Metal band from Belgium founded in September 2016. ANOUK DEBECQ– vocals

CÉLINE MAZAY – guitars

REMY ADAM – bass

JULIEN VANHEES – drums

BENJAMIN LEFEVRE – lead guitars

How did you discover music?

Céline Mazay: I discover metal music when I was 8. My father is a huge Iron Maiden fan so I start to listen to it. Then I discover other bands like Slayer, Metallica, Megadeth, etc.

What was your first performance at like?

Our first performance was at « l’Atelier Rock » (Belgium) in 2016 at a student concert. Back then I was a student so I wondered if we could do a show.

What was the title of your first original song? Did you record it?

The first title was « Clash Of Generations » and no we didn’t record it because we thought it was not brutal enough.

How did you start the band?

We created the band with Remy (bass) in 2016. We first found Tom (drums) than Logan (vocals/guitars) after that the line-up change in 2019 and Anouk (singer), Benjamin (lead guitars), and Julien (drums) joined us.

How the band did get its name?

We have proposed some names and we voted.

From all the bands you have opened up which has showed you the most about band performance?

I think we learned a lot from Blood Red Throne and Sinister. Their performances were great, they have good contact with the public and we were inspired by that.

Your new CD comes out on October 2, 2020. You are doing crowdfunding to help you get it out. How is that going?

Each fan or friend can make a donation in exchange for a reward:

– the signed digipack

– the band’s first t-shirt

– a personalized thank in the album booklet

– the signed album poster

– goodies

– concert tickets

– …

We are surprised that it works well. We didn’t expect the audience to be so receptive!

What is your favorite track on the album?

Hard to tell. I love all the songs!
I really like to hear « Silence Is Your Only Way » and I like to play « No One Will Hear You »

Celine- How did you the Endorsement deal form Invaders Amps?

Before having an Invaders amp, I had a Laney and it was broken so I looked after someone to fix it. I met François (Invaders brand creator) and he fixed it. We stared to talk about amps and he offered to try his amp and I loved it! So, I asked if I could join the Invaders Amp family.

Your last show before the virus was March 13 was canceled. What were you thinking at that time?

I never thought the virus was going to last that long. I thought we would go on stage in June.

How do you feel the Covid-19 virus going to affect the music business in the future?

I think it will take time for the big festivals to reopen. I hope independent concerts will resume soon enough.

What have you been doing with your self-quarantine?

I played and listened a lot of music.

Have you discovered or rediscovered any new hobbies?

With Remy, we started a new Instagram page called “One Minute Of Metal”. We post videos of us playing metal covers

Many artists are doing nightly concerts over either YouTube, Facebook, Twitter or Instagram. What are you planning to do?

I don’t think we’ll do that because all of our instruments are at the rehearsal room and not everyone in the band has room to play at home.

Live Nations just started Live Nation from Home. Which are concerts from artist homes. An all-new virtual music hub keeping fans connected to their favorite artists featuring daily live streams, performances, new music, and more. Do you think it will be possible to make a living doing concerts this way?

I think it might work for a while but nothing beats a real live gig. What’s cool about concerts is meeting people, talking to them live and not behind a screen. However, I think that as long as there is a virus, it is a good solution.

Live Nation is starting to do the first ever U.S. drive-in concert series — LIVE FROM THE DRIVE-IN — which started on July 10, 2020. Now there are many other Drive-in concerts popping up. Do you think this is something you would be willing to do?

Yes, why not!

With Social Distance being the norm. Do you feel that it may be the end of music fest for the next couple of years?

I hope not but if it’s bad for better, it must be done.

How was the Heretic Metal Fest?

It was great, the audience was great, the organization was professional. We had a great time!

How do you see yourself in the next five years?

Until then, I hope that the concerts will have resumed and that we will have had the opportunity to go back on stage to present our new album « Blood Reign » and maybe we will be preparing the next album.

Anything you would like to say in closing?

Thanks for having us for an interview! Take care of yourself, stay home, and wear a mask if you go out!
