One thing must be said: Sons of the Silent Age is not your average “cover band.” They are a collective of legendary musicians, bound together by a common love and respect for artist, David Bowie and they certainly know how to pay a proper tribute, sans all of the cheesiness that most cover bands embody.

Fronted by none other than industrial music rock legend, Chris Connelly and supported by Matt Walker (Morrissey, Smashing Pumpkins, and Garbage) and myriad of other famed musicians, the Sons of the Silent Age ensemble is a class act, indeed. And, as though the already existing powerhouse was not enough, the addition of special guest, actor Michael Shannon (Boardwalk Empire, The Shape of Water, Knives Out, etc.) made their appearance at Metro in Chicago one of the most buzzworthy events of 2020.

The January event happened on one of Chicago’s worst weather days but it still managed to pack a completely sold-out crowd. There were definitely no complaints in that regard from those at NorthShore University’s Integrative Medicine Program, as proceeds from ticket sales, raffles, etc. directly benefited their patients during this publicly invited (and extremely well-attended) annual benefit.

The live show consisted of covering two of Bowie’s most memorable albums, “The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust” and “Station to Station,” with special guest, Michael Shannon, stepping in and wowing everyone with his co-performance of “Ziggy Stardust” and “Suffragette City,” which was beyond epic. Overall, The set was packed full of energy, costume changes, and a shit-ton of emotion, given the fact that the anniversary of David Bowie’s death was a mere days prior. The band certainly not only profusely entertained the masses that evening but also served up proper allegiance to the artist with whom they emulate. Mr. Bowie most certainly would have been proud.
