What is your upbringing?

I was raised in a suburb of New York City, family dinners, birthday parties and holiday gatherings.

How did you discover music?

My parents brought me to an outdoor concert when I was young. My parents loved music; my father played guitar a little bit. They had an awesome album collection. My Dad loved Yes, Jethro Tull, Squeeze. My mom loved Cher, Bob Segar and Linda Ronstadt.

You wrote your first song at eleven. Do you remember the name of the song?

Not at all. LOL.

How did you get together as a band?

I met Bruce at an open mic and he was working in the restaurant. He heard my voice and came out to meet me, we were both in different bands at the time. He said he would write a song for me and we got together and started writing…….

How did you get your name?

We were tossing around names, I said Magdalene, as in Mary Magdalene, then someone said “Magg Dylan” kind of like Matt Dillon because we’re Outsiders, and Magg Dylan was it!

How was your first gig together like as a band?

It was great and nerve-wracking at the same time. We literally formed about 2 weeks before our 1st show. We wrote Delusional on a Monday and performed it on Thursday.

You have opened up for the likes of All That Remains, Non point, Otep and Saliva.

What have you learned about the music business from them or others that you would like to share?

They were all really great experiences. The first thing we learned is how welcoming and helpful people can be. We also learned to be more organized. Paul Crosby (Saliva) has taught us so much about the industry, but most importantly to enjoy it.

Your music is charting down and under now. Any plans to tour there or at least promoting your band?

We really want to go there and can’t wait to get out of this Pandemic and possibly schedule a tour. We would love to meet people down under!

You worked on most of the album at home and then headed to the studio to finish it up. How was the development of the songs different than in the studio? And what computer tools did you use at home?

We used Presonus to record at home. Going into the studio with Jonathan Dolese at Konkrete Studios brought us to another level. The vocals of the songs came to life. We were able to feel the emotion from the music from start to finish. The biggest difference was having Jonathan’s ideas and guidance to capture our sound. Somehow, he just knew what Bruce was looking for in places we were indecisive.  Recording in the vocal booth was so different for me. I was able to focus so much better.

How was it to record the video for Delusional? How did you get the prison to record in?

Recording the video for Delusional was surreal. We worked with Digital Underground Studios, Scott Hansen and Desiree Connell. They lined up the prison. They are so amazing. From start to finish everything was professional and organized. It was cold and rainy in January, so I was all bundled up except when we were shooting. It was one of those days that everything just lined up.

How do you feel that about how the Coronavirus is affecting the music world today?

Sad. Although, we have been working and writing our new record. We did a bunch of live streams, but it’s still not live shows. We want to get back on the road.

Digital vs. vinyl?

Both? LOL. As an artist I should say vinyl, but I love digital.

Any plans to tour?

YES, developing soon.

What song from the past is in your mind right now? And what is the meaning that song mean to you?

You Oughta Know by Alanis Morrissette. That song gives me power. Whenever I hear/sing that song, I take back my power from some pretty bad experiences in relationships.

How do you see yourself in the next five years?

Touring, a lot.

Anything you would like to say in closing?

I am honored to get to chat with you. Our (Magg Dylan) main goal is to help people go through their experiences and heal. We believe if we share what we have gone through, it helps people know we’re all in this thing called life together. We love our music family. Thank you!
