Fortune Feimster is no ordinary southern belle by any stretch of the imagination. Born in North Carolina, Feimster carries none of the southern expectations normally placed on women of that region. Feimster left home and moved to Los Angeles, California after she graduated from college at the urging of actress, Emily Proctor. She initially worked for Proctor as a writer and a personal assistant.

Feimster was attracted to comedy as a youngster when she watched TV shows like Saturday Night Live and the Carol Burnett Show. She put those comedic aspirations on hold for a more academic path. She describes herself as being studious with perfect attendance in school in her youth.

Initially, when she arrived in California, she first gained attention as a writer and panelist on E’s hit show Chelsea Lately. Feimster’s first appearance in Tucson was a part of Chelsea Handlers’ comedy troup at the Fox Theatre in 2012.

Feimster starred as a series regular on The Mindy Project and Champions. She has been a guest on TV shows such as Claws, 2 Broke Girls, Glee, Life in Pieces, The L Word: Generation Q, and Dear
White People. Let’s not forget Ru-Paul’s Drag Race.

The pervious two years have been a challenge for Feimster. Her Netflix special Sweet and Salty, was released at the start of the pandemic but she was unable to tour. The world had shut down. She mentioned that she learned that she has “no survival skills. None.” However, she was able to ground herself and write an entire new stand-up show. Now, Feimster is back on the road to promote the special among her other new projects.

Tonight’s show was sold out with a crowd that came to greet her in all her glory and Feimster did not disappoint. The show picks up where Sweet and Salty left off. She is a storyteller and she has a lot of stories to tell.

She spoke of her childhood that may have seemed difficult for her at the time. Her upbeat manner in revealing those hard times seem so humorous. She described herself as a “delicate flower.” Her stories resonate with all kinds of people and that seems to be the secret of her success. She may have felt a little rusty after being off touring, but she obviously has her mojo back. Her description of her honeymoon didn’t fail to elicit a lot of belly laughs.

Feimster spent time bringing certain audience members into the act with her observational humor.  She has an uncanny ability to work unscripted. My final conclusion is Feimster has a brilliant, comedic talent. Catch Feimster when you can. I know I will
