Draag- a February residency every Monday night at The Echo and Echoplex in Los Angeles.

Interview conducted on February 06, 2020

by Dan Locke

Draag is proud to represent Sylmar, California. Emerging in the fall of 2013 in a garage full of broken, sentimental equipment, draag began as a solo project of Adrian Acosta, trained as a mariachi singer by his father who was an established norteño musician. He went on to recruit members influenced by disparate upbringings in the worlds of underground punk, no wave, experimental jazz, and classical music training. The project has since evolved into a blissfully painful wall of sound interweaving shoegaze, ambient, electro-industrial, sludge, and something akin to Sleep meets Stereolab.

Dan Locke: How did the band get together?

Draag: Craigslist/San Fernando Valley

How did you get your name?

34A1N1AC

Did you know there is a DJ which uses the name as DJ Draag?

There’s also a Russian techno project that goes by draag we’d like to play a show with one day.

You are about to do a residency at the Echo. Have you done a residency before?

We’re happy our first ever is the Echo residency.

I am going to name some other musicians, who have done residencies before. I would like you to say something about each if possible.

Christine Aguilera – Genie
Lady Gaga – a triple threat
Cardi B – interesting
Drake – Aubrey
Diane Ross – no comment
Def Leppard – sick
Janet Jackson – love her
Sting – mixed feelings
Aerosmith – sweet emotions/Revolution X/if you book them, they will come
Robbie Fulks -?
Wilco – do dreams come true

During your residency, are you going to do a breakdown of your songs, by telling the crowd the story behind the songs?

We would rather keep it open to interpretation.

Tell me about your Ep Clara Luz EP being released on Feb. 21, 2020?

It’s completely unpretentious (no sarcasm) it doesn’t hide behind a front. It feels very vulnerable. Jon Nunez of Torche produced a few of the songs, which was an honor. He’s the genius behind the heavy melodic pop-metal sound.

Any plans to tour behind the EP?

If possible, or for our upcoming LP.

How do you see yourselves in 5 years?

Releasing our sophomore jinx.

Anything you like to say in closing?

Support music with your money because of streaming.
