191 Toole

Tucson, AZ

09/26.2021

The queen of blues guitar graced the stage at 191 Toole with a wall-to-wall sold out crowd waiting with anticipation. It had been three long years since Fish’s last performance in Tucson and the fans were chomping at the bits to get another dose of Samantha Fish.

Fish has a new album, Faster, that she is on tour promoting. The album incorporates elements of pop, contemporary R&B, and hip-hop into her scorching blues-rock.

The blues woman reveled in the love bestowed upon her for the two-hour show. She stepped on the stage wearing a black and white striped top and red leather-like pants. She led the set with the title song from the new album then eased into another number from the new album, “All Ice No Whiskey.” The platinum blonde played guitar with as much vigor as the law would allow as she flipped her locks of hair giving more emphasis to the beat of the music.

Fish played an array of electric guitars from her favored white SG to her vintage style Gibson red Firebird. Toward the end of the set, she donned her four-string cigar box guitar to play some slide guitar. Her vocals have gotten stronger over the years as she sang of heartache in “Love Letters.” Her fine R&B-styled vocals are buoyed by her screaming guitar breaks. There are many melodic hooks in the eight songs performed from her new album. There are many nasty, funky blues rifts from her power pumping guitar playing.

Songs from Fish’s other albums included a scorching blues-rocker, “Watch It Die.” “Black Wind Howlin’” gave everyone in the band a chance to shine with their solo performances. Fish killed it with her exceptional guitar solo. There was a one-song encore with Bukka White’s “Shake ‘Em on Down.” The takeaway from this show is that the belle of the blues shreds like no other.
