On a perfect summer night at the Credit Union 1 Amphitheatre in Tinley Park, Illinois, classic rock reigned supreme as Don Felder, Kevin Cronin of REO Speedwagon, and Styx delivered a powerhouse triple bill that kept the crowd on its feet.
Former Eagles guitarist Don Felder opened the evening with an energetic set that reminded fans of his legendary place in rock history. His note-for-note precision on “Already Gone,” “One of These Nights,” and “The Long Run” set the tone, but it was his signature Hotel California that drew the loudest cheers. Felder’s soaring solos proved timeless, and his band delivered with crisp harmonies that carried the spirit of the Eagles throughout the Tinley Park amphitheatre.
Next came Kevin Cronin, stepping out from REO Speedwagon to take the spotlight. Cronin and his band rocked the crowd while weaving in personal stories between songs, especially when introducing classics like “Time for Me to Fly” and “Keep On Loving You.” His vocals, still strong and heartfelt, transported fans back to the glory days of REO. The band played the entire Hi Infidelity album in order, then powered through massive hits like “Keep Pushin’,” “Ridin’ the Storm Out,” “Can’t Fight This Feeling,” and “Roll With the Changes.”
Closing the night, Styx unleashed their full prog-rock spectacle. Opening with “The Grand Illusion,” they filled the stage with layered harmonies, swirling keyboards, and dazzling guitar work. Lawrence Gowan commanded the crowd with theatrical energy, spinning at the keys and leading the sing-along to “Lady” and “Come Sail Away.” Meanwhile, Tommy Shaw’s guitar and vocals shined, particularly on “Blue Collar Man” and the finale “Renegade,” which closed the show in a storm of lights and cheers.
The Tinley Park concert was a vivid reminder of why these artists endure: great songs, great stories, and an unmistakable connection with their fans.
