When a band like Shinedown hits the road, no two shows are ever quite the same but the energy, the connection, and the volume? Always consistent. For their latest run, the Dance Kid Dance Tour, we decided to do something a little different: a dual review, capturing the pulse of the tour from two cities, two nights, and two camera lenses.
Our goal was simple: immerse ourselves in the music, the crowds, and the moments that make live music unforgettable. Dan Locke covered the show in Little Rock, Arkansas, photographing the set from the mandatory media location for this tour (a/k/a in front of the soundboard) while soaking in every note. A few nights later, I caught the tour in Peoria, Illinois, and brought my own lens (and ears) to the experience.
Same tour, same lineup—but two totally different vibes. Shinedown, Beartooth, and Morgan Wade brought their powerhouse performances to Little Rock, Arkansas, and Peoria, Illinois, proving that while the setlists might stay the same, each crowd gets its own unforgettable show.
Morgan Wade: Country Heart, Rock Soul
In both cities, Morgan Wade opened the night with an edge fans might not expect from a country artist. Touring with Shinedown seems to have lit a fire in her—she’s leaning into a raw, rock-forward sound that still carries the emotional weight of her roots.
In Little Rock, she took the stage cautiously at first, hanging back with her band. But as the set went on, she grew bolder, eventually stepping up to the edge of the stage and reaching out to the crowd. Her vocals carried a haunting blend of heartbreak and defiance, especially during fan favorites like “Wilder Days” and “Take Me Away.” When she climbed onto a speaker mid-song, the crowd erupted—it was a clear sign she was feeling the moment just as much as they were.
In Peoria, the vibe was a bit more subdued. While Wade’s vocals remained steady and emotionally resonant, her stage presence stayed somewhat reserved throughout the set. She didn’t bring the same energy or crowd interaction seen in other cities, but fans still appreciated the raw honesty in her performance. Even without flashy movements, there was a quiet strength in her delivery that connected with listeners on a different level.
Beartooth: Full-Throttle Fury
If Morgan Wade set the emotional tone, Beartooth came in swinging with pure adrenaline. Frontman Caleb Shomo wasted no time unleashing a sonic storm in both cities, with his signature blend of guttural screams and soaring melodies.
In Little Rock, the pit was wild. Tracks like “In Between” and “The Past Is Dead” had fists in the air and feet off the ground. But it was “I Was Alive” that truly blew the roof off—the crowd and band fed off each other’s energy in a way that felt explosive.
Peoria brought that same chaos, with fans matching the band’s intensity beat for beat. Beartooth’s connection with the audience is visceral—you don’t just hear the music, you feel it in your chest.
Shinedown: Rock Veterans Deliver a Masterclass
When Shinedown takes the stage, it’s not just a concert—it’s a full-scale production. In both cities, they launched their set with “Dance, Kid, Dance”, instantly cranking the volume and the drama. Brent Smith commanded the room like a general on a mission, delivering powerhouse vocals and taking time to talk directly to the fans between songs.
In Little Rock, the moment the flames shot up during “Cut the Cord,” the place erupted. And when the band made their way to the small satellite stage near the soundboard, fans in the back got a rare chance to be front row for a few songs. It was a classy move that didn’t go unnoticed.
Peoria’s crowd brought just as much enthusiasm. The second-stage performance was just as intimate, and the setlist was a well-balanced mix of hits and newer tracks from Planet Zero. Whether it was the emotional pull of “Second Chance” or the raw energy of “Sound of Madness,” Shinedown didn’t miss a beat.
And there ya have it: Same tour, same bands but every city has its own flavor. Little Rock felt like a slow burn that exploded into a firestorm, while Peoria hit the ground running and never let up. Either way, fans walked away with ringing ears, full hearts, and the kind of night you talk about for weeks.
