Alice in Chains….what can I say.  I mean, a band that has literally been around for three decades, completely killed it on August 21st at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre (still referred locally as, “The World”) in Tinley Park, IL.

Alice in Chains

The show was beyond awesome, regardless of my initial hesitation.  Listen, I’m going to be honest with you here.  I wasn’t too excited to see/hear them.  I mean, yeah, they’re a great band but without Layne Staley, I just was not interested, nor have I ever been since Staley’s death in 2002.  That is, until they started playing.  I’m not joking here…..they were amazing and I was 110% completely blown away with “new” vocalist, William DuVall.  I say “new” but he has been with the band since 2006.

There were SO many tunes that I had long-forgotten about and it was only within mere seconds during the beginning of each song, when I [loudly] exclaimed, “Oh my gawd, I completely forgot about this song!  I love this fucking song!”  Then, I proceeded to “sing” along, word-for-word….my face literally hurting from smiling so big.  This happened during their entire set.   See set list below.

Alice in Chains

The band KoRn has also been around for eons and were impressively and equally as booming as Alice in Chains.   Out of the gate they played, “Here to Stay,” and then came “Blind.”  This was pretty much the point when every single person within miles could feel the thunderous drum and bass and the entire crowd lost their gawd-damn minds.  It was glorious!

KoRn

Guitarist, Brian “Head” Welch has always been one of my personal favorites of KoRn simply because he ALWAYS puts on one hella show….plus, he’s just damn good at his craft.   Speaking of visuals, the band’s choice of fun-house mirrors lining the back and sides of the stage made for some pretty wild optics as an addition to the ear candy that was booming via the PA.

KoRn

Maybe it was me, but it seemed like KoRn’s set was a bit short.  Maybe it’s just because I was willing it to be longer, who knows.  Either way, I very much appreciated their mix of “One” by Metallica, perfectly intertwined with “Shoots and Ladders.”   PERFECT.     See set list below.
