Well, Nelsonville 2018 has come and gone. I have already talked about the fest in whole. But now I am going to break it down to each day and what it was like.
On May 1, 2018. Nelsonville open up at noon. And the music started out in the late afternoon. I got there at about 5:30 and still got a chance to see 8 or the 15 bands. Here is what I saw that day. I have included both images from the day and video so you can hear what the bands sound like.

The Black Angels – The Black Angels are an American psychedelic rock band from Austin, Texas. They reminded me of Velvet Underground which I never saw, but I did see Lou Leed.

White Mystery – A great two-piece band from Chicago. Lead by Alexandra Brooks White who uses the stage name of Miss Alex White and her younger brother, drummer Francis Scott Key White. Don’t think of another duo band like the White Stripes. This band is way better. White Mystery is known for their relentless tour schedule in which White claims to have played 900 shows in the band’s first eight years. The group has played with national acts such as Garbage, Shonen Knife, The Stooges, and Weezer. They played on a parade float with Sir Richard Branson for the grand opening of Virgin Hotels Chicago. The group has released 9 full-length albums as of 2018.

Blueprint – Albert Shepard, better known by his stage name Blueprint, is an American hip hop musician from Columbus, Ohio. He is a founder of Weightless Recordings.
Blueprint is one half of the duo Soul Position along with producer RJD2. He is also a member of the rap group Greenhouse (formerly known as Greenhouse Effect), which currently consists of himself and Illogic.
On stage were just two people, and they give a great performance.

AntibalasAntibalas is an American, Brooklyn-based afrobeat band that is modeled after Fela Kuti’s Africa 70 band and Eddie Palmieri’s Harlem River Drive Orchestra. Although their music generally follows the musical architecture and language of afrobeat, it incorporates elements of jazz, funk, dub, improvised music, and traditional drumming from Cuba and West Africa.

Dana – DANA was formed in the winter of 2015 when singer/theremin player Madeline Jackson asked then guitar player Bobb Hatt if he’d like to start a “psychedelic lounge act”, since then the band has had rotating line up and an ever-evolving sound DANA is Madeline Jackson (vocals/theremin), Chris Lute (guitar, auxiliary instrumentation), Dan Matos (bass, synth), and Brian Baker (drums). I had the chance to check them out in the camping area in a tent. Their set reminded of a nite at CBGBs. It was nice to remember.
