Kodiak not just a bear. But a band that kicks ass and is taking names

Interview conduct with Pete Biggiani on June 20, 2019

by Dan Locke

Dan Locke: How did you pick your name? And why did you pick the same name as another band?

Pete Biggiani: We were trying to figure out a name, we came up with Kodiak which is a powerful sounding name and it stuck. Honestly, we had no idea there was another Kodiak but they broke up a long time ago.

How did you get Carmine Appice to be your general manager?

Carmine and I go way back. We did a drum instructional DVD together when I was 11. We stayed good friends ever since. A little less than a year ago, we were talking and I sent him some of our music. He asked if we would like to work together. He, then, brought in our other manager Warren Wyatt and ever since then we’ve been working on Kodiak.

Have you had the chance to jam with him?

All the time. Since I’m a drummer he’s always showing me different stuff around the kit. It’s really cool. Carmine sometimes even comes to our rehearsals and gets on my drum kit and jams a song with the rest of the guys for fun. He’s a great guy and an awesome friend and manager

Kodiak
Kodiak

You are from NJ. I am going to ask you about some other bands from your home state. I would like you to say something about each if possible.

My Chemical Romance

My Chemical Romance is a great band! It sucks they went on hiatus but there are rumors that they have been practicing in NYC. It would be pretty cool if Kodiak ended up playing some shows with them. We’d love to do that!

The Four Seasons

How can you not think of the Four Seasons when you think of Jersey? They made incredible music! Frankie Valli is such a great singer. “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry,” and “Rag Doll” are some of my favorite songs of theirs.

Misfits

The Misfits are a great band with a logo that everyone knows around the world! Listen to “Last Caress” also covered by Metallica.

Bruce Springsteen

Bruce Springsteen is the best! Played all around Asbury Park and made the venues we’ve played legendary!

Halsey

She’s great! Unique voice and I am definitely a fan. Her, Yungblood and Travis Barker just released a kick ass song together! Definitely go check out!

Count Basie

One of the all-time greatest band leaders. Love it all.

Paul Simon

I think Paul Simon’s work is amazing. “Me And Julio Down By The Schoolyard”! I remember hearing that when I was just a kid. Cool stuff.

Bon Jovi

We love Bon Jovi! We just shot a music video for our single, that’s coming out next month, where they shot their music video for “In And Out Of Love.”

Any plans for touring

Yes, there’s plans for us to tour in the fall this year. I think we are even going to Alaska for some shows

Have you checked out Jon Bon Jovi’s restaurant (JBL Soul Kitchen)?

Yes. I, actually, live not too far from it. It’s a great place and we love what they are all about.

How do you see yourself in 5 years?

Back here doing an interview with UNRATED and talking about what Kodiak has been doing the past 5 years. Hopefully, Kodiak and bands like Greta Van Fleet, The Struts, and Dirty Honey will be doing good things in the future of Rock & Roll

Anything in closing for your fans?

We love you guys! Thank you for your constant love and support. The KDKARMY is stronger than ever. Let’s keep building it and we will see you on the road in 2019/2020!
