Gene Simmons Band Rocks the House

Arcada Theatre, St. Charles, IL, USA, May 3 2018

by Jake Warkel

One of Rock’s most iconic individuals Gene Simmons here in the historic Arcada Theatre in St. Charles IL to perform classic hits from Kiss and covers of others as well as Gene’s solo music too.

Tonight looks like a modest crowd, it’s not at full capacity but for the fans that are here they’re in for a treat. Except there will be no fire breathing or blood spitting like the Demon does on stage with Kiss.

The Gene Simmons band, consisting of guitarists Phil Shouse, Jeremy Asbrock and Ryan Cook and former Reverend Horton Heat drummer Paul Simmons is getting ready to start as the lights are down and the stage is set.

The first thing that I noticed is the sound of having three guitars really creates a much fuller sound and gives everyone on stage to perform and have a bit more fun. They played some classic Kiss songs that Kiss hasn’t played for so long which was refreshing to hear Gene perform with his own band.

The band sounded amazing as they were solid all night. Gene’s band members had great stage presence, along with just tight musicianship from all members. The show was definitely one of the funnest shows I’ve been too in a long time. The crowd was into it all night long. It seemed that at least almost everyone in attendance at some point made it on the stage with the band as Gene welcomed the fans to come up on stage for three songs to sing backups. It was a nightmare for security but all went well as there were not any crazy situations except once when a fan on the last song of the night “Rock and Roll All Night” kept bumping into Gene Simmons from behind and Gene had finally lost it and told this man to go get out! go now! get out! several times. The gentleman moved way away from Gene as I believe he was embarrassed getting yelled at by Gene. All an all it was a fun show with lots of great music.
