On Friday September 01, 2017 Tim Reynolds and his band TR3 opened up for a local Morgantown band name Fletcher’s Grove for their album release party. At 123 Pleasant St, in Morgantown, WV. The West Virginia born Appalachian Jam Rock band marks 10 years of grooving with a self-titled album symbolizing the fresh starting point of the new Fletcher’s Grove line up and band
Many of you knows Tim Reynolds as the musical partner to Dave Matthews. But he is a lot more than that.
Reynolds was born in Wiesbaden, Germany, where his father, a career military man, was stationed. Both parents were extremely devout Christians and he says he grew up with Christian music. But still ever at a young age he would play air guitar to The Beatles.
In Charlottesville, Virginia, finding jazz, jazz fusion, and experimental music enthusiasts there. Reynolds was able to develop his musical style which he found being in a college town, it was a welcoming environment for him to branch out musically with experimentation music.
By the 1990s, he had formed the “Tim Reynolds Three” or TR3, which allowed him to add growing influences of music from Nine Inch Nails, Bob Marley and Marilyn Manson. In addition, he continued to learn to play other instruments, including the sitar, sarod, the mandello, keytar, tubular bells and other “exotic” instruments that are not commonly seen in Western rock and roll at that time.
In the 1990s while in Charlottesville he met Dave Matthews. And they soon became buddys. In 1993 Tim and Dave started to play acoustically as a duo. While all lead to The Dave Matthews Band. The nice thing about their partnership, it give Tim time to play with the Dave Matthews Band and also with Dave as a duo along with his side project TR3.
Reynolds and Matthews performed on a 2008 album called Songs for Tibet, an initiative to support Tibet, Dalai Lama Tenzin Gyatso and to underline the human rights violations allegedly committed against Tibet by China. On 4 October 2009 Reynolds performed with Matthews in St. Louis, Missouri to support Farm Aid in 2009. And since then they have performed together at many Farm Aids
I had the chance to talk to the band members of Fletcher’s Grove and asked them what they thought of TR3 opening for them. And they told me that TR3 was happy to be opening for them.
