             It not often we find ourselves puzzled in the shifting elements of music, like many of us we are solely focused at hand with what we call the popular artists or bands that give us the unparallel mental enjoyment of their music.

Sometimes to discover new uplifting music, we search deep into the bowels of the internet to explore our cravings and find those new or breakthrough artists’ ready to enchant the world with their music and one of those fast rising rockers is Ohio Native musician Kurt Deimer.

We forget how quick some artists’ quickly make an impact with not just their music but adding an actor’s role into the mix can make you stand out above and beyond just a normal recording artist.

With an outstanding EP and a tapestry of a list of major tours this individual has been fortunate enough to ride the golden ticket on, it was a solid two years ago I had my first enchanted experience of Kurt’s band opening for Geoff Tate former front man of Queensryche, thought okay let’s give this guy a solid chance and see the potential he has, I was impressed then and thought hope this guy and his band come back around again a 30 minute set wasn’t enough then and he should be a headliner at some point going forward. Luckily enough once again having a rare opportunity to see Kurt Deimer a second time come back around seemed to be nothing short of stellar as he opened for a co Headliner show with Skid Row and Buck Cherry at the Keswick Theatre,

A well seasoned musician and his second time around was even better then of two years ago, the energy and stage presence was truly rock solid, not sure if it was the same tour band from the previous show I covered.

Even with six quick songs including his version of Pink Floyds’  “Have a Cigar” definitely made my evening complete.

I’ve always said the lesser known Artists or bands that come out of left field and ride out some of the best tours as a direct support make a strong musical presence much like Kurt’s recent show at Keswick Theatre.

Music has that unforgiving melody that transcends our minds back into a time where image and lifestyle collided into what many of us often call it the Glamour Rock Days in the Eighties’.

Many of us still thrive on our beloved bands in the eighties that still retain our youth as party animals flocking to stages far and wide with a genre’ that still holds  bond between music, images and bombastic hits creating that one of a kind sound.

We can rekindle that momentous time period with a day dream with one band that can bring the party full on center stage to fans spanning a countless generation, who thrive on the glamour rock days and that one band is STEEL PANTHER.

By now everyone has seen Steel Panther at one time or another, their music is filled with tainted lyrics and bite sized rock anthems that scream funny, for many it’s a joy ride of antics, others it still is that eighties musical vibe to which four individuals who collectively bring the music heat night after night and they do it nothing short of greatness as a band.

Earlier this year, they released as new CD entitled “ On the Prowl “ to which is an instant favorite of mine as I to still live through the retrospect of the hair metal days with bands I’ve  idolized as a kid growing to love heavy metal glamour rock.

It is of no surprise for a band that can have fans flock to see them as they are a great live entertaining band with that one of a kind energetic persona pulsating from their shows.

While they continue to wow fans with crazy explicit song lyrics, Steel panther has played every venue in the east coast reign that most recently propelled a sellout at the Keswick Theatre within a blink of an eye.

As their tour is still on going through 2023 celebrating a great new recording, Unrated magazine caught up with a show several months back at the peak of The On the Prowl Tour with a brand new bassist “ Spyder “  who fits quite well.

Seem like yesterday this band quickly stumbled into the hearts of many fellow rockers yet it’s been twenty plus years and still going strong like a well oiled machine at peak performance and no turning point in slowing down anytime soon.

Their most recent show at the Keswick Theatre even if this was several plus months ago, still feels like it was yesterday with an all new stage production and a new bassist on hand Steel Panther delivered on the best headliner shows to date in the Philly area.

The Party bell rang and the show was underway as they opened with “Eyes of a Panther “from 2009’s Feel the Steel, an absolute ice breaker to what was an epic show with numerous songs that were just filled with humorous laughter and the abundance of stage banter collectively keeping fans wanting to hear more energized songs from back catalog of recordings.

Sadly they left out “17 Girls in a Row” and their remake cover of Journey’s “Don’t Stop Believin’ the show was still nothing short of great.

For anyone who loves the eighties’ when Image was everything and music was just the icing on the rock and roll train cake, then Steel Panther certainly is a band you can’t live without.

Every show is unique and uplifting to say the most about this band going forward and seeing them sell out a small place is just another point of how great they truly are.

Best show I have seen in a packed venue in a long time!

The Filllmore

With all the fantastic ways we can now stream our favorite music and enjoy a plethora of our beloved bands, many of us want to take a deep left turn and discover bands we often hear through others how great they are yet, knowing very little about many, for some following a trend in popularity seems to be a general key, and for others discovering a new band is quite exciting especially with YouTube music that truly has opened up a whole new world.

It’s been a long time for fans of this band to finally get a glimpse on what appears to be their first American tour in support of Dead Club City, a new CD of great musical portions Nothing but Thieves certainly was worth the wait to bring their greatest live show ever to the stages of North America.

Just how popular is this band, nothing is more of an eye-popping surprise with the fan line stretched from the door around the corner even before the venue doors opened for the opening artist. Never underestimate any band that has never played Philadelphia before not evening knowing beforehand about sheer popularity and this band formed in 2012 has become an overnight sensation just across the shores of the UK and beyond.

While mainstream rock radio introduced us to Nothing but Thieves with just one song, we know there are a large pile of great uplifting energetic songs captivating this band through every single back catalog.

Opening for the Theives, another great band with sheer energy also first time in Philly Kid Kapichi, hailing from the shows of the UK certainly got a great welcome at the Fillmore as the warm up act early on.

A quick change over and a brief intermission and the Fillmore was truly ready for a band to explode with a diverse set list spanning their career as a band everything from the heavy hitters, the lesser-known songs and the danceable songs we have long come to expect from this great band.

The bands’ 19 song set list featured several fresh new songs straight from DCC to which they opened with the title track “Welcome to The Dead Club City“.

With a fresh new CD on hand, the band featured key songs like

 “Tomorrow Is Closed”, “City Haunts”, “Do You Love Me Yet”, “Green Eyes – Siena”, “Pop the Balloon” and “Overcome”.

I think the high point of the entire show was when the band broke into the single “Sorry” from 2017’s Broken Machine, basically a single that broke this band to American mainstream rock radio.

I absolutely love the fan to band interaction, gives you that warm fuzzy feeling especially when every die-hard music fan can sing the lyrics to every single popular song raising the roof off the venue, and this was nothing short of spectacular gazing around the room.

On a high note, rounding out the evening, I can truly say not knowing what to expect from a band I have never seen before, and only know one song, I was truly impressed with a great show and what they brought to the table an energetic show with upbeat songs and a fun evening.

Freedom Mortgage Pavilion

Pantera, one of the most influential and iconic heavy metal bands of all time, has returned to the stage for the first time in over two decades in the summer of 2023for not just the fans but for the brothers who were main element of Pantera to celebrate a legacy of their music as if it has never left any stone unturned spanning the bands unprecedented career from the early nineties’.  

Pantera’s musical brilliance can never be ignored and can never be forgotten as the spirit of their music lives on through both Darrell “Dimebag” and Vinnie Paul who were the key elements that defined a generation of musicians. 

Much like any band, the music simply says it all, from rich guitar decibels and melodic solos to the abundance of wholesome lyrics that driven Pantera to simply become more than just a house hold name, Pantera ‘s legacy lives on throughout each and every song ever written. 

The summer of concerts and festivals wouldn’t be a complete meltdown without Pantera taking the stage one last time perhaps with two original members Bassist Rex Brown and front man vocalist Phil Anselmo alongside Anthrax’s Charlie Benante and BLS/ Ozzy’s Zakk Wylde taking all those beloved master pieces once again for a mental joyride like the original Pantera was truly reborn again. 

While no one can replace Dimebag and Vinnie shoes, we the fans were reluctantly graced with this infectious music to soar through the walls of Camden New Jersey’s Freedom Mortgage Pavilion for a show unlike no other. 

We all know no one can ever replace Dime bag’s blistering guitar riffs and his ability to levitate the stage into a whole new atmosphere while entertaining fans alike.  

For some of us who had a rare opportunity to this band in their prime was a show beyond a show, and for other this time around was perhaps one last chance to hear all those beloved songs freshly dusted off for what would be a great experience of pure talent with Charlie and Zakk rounding out duties on this tour. 

The energy cascading throughout the parking lots of the venue filled to capacity blasting Pantera songs from car to car, the excitement was quickly escalating in what would be a fantastic evening of a musical trip down memory lane. 

As if having a thrill seeker like Pantera closing the show, we also had another incredible band Virginia boys Lamb of God, who are no stranger to the Philadelphia venues as they too have made an name for themselves with headlining shows throughout venues small and wide making what some call an everlasting visual impression with a great show, and a metal nod for Child Bite who opened the show going on in daylight right around 6ish. 

Sitting through two great bands certainly would get the juices flowing especially with Lamb of God proving that they can work any mosh pit into a frenzy performing a ear blistering set with “walk with me in hell”, “resurrection man” , and “laid to rest”. 

I love the quick change over’s on off and right onto the next band, the stage was draped with a Pantera curtain as the final preps got underway, light went down and the curtain began to descend and the opening roar into the first song was nothing short of stellar ecstasy with “a new level” and “mouth for war” both from 1992’s vulgar display of power absolutely shook the roof off the venue with in just the first ten minutes into their set. 

Every song was like a monumental trip while watching video clips of Dime and Vinnie across the screens while the chants were louder than the music at some points, this was an extreme reflection for the love and the respect for the music that was created with one intention and that was to be pure greatness with a band that everyone admired throughout a lifetime of memories. 

Over ninety minutes of pure mayhem with other master pieces that Zakk Wylde certain filled dimes shoes with captivating solos in “five minutes alone”, “this love”, and “ cemetery gates”. 

Like many rock shows where the hype is at a high point at the beginning and then drops off right in the middle, this show obviously had that hype from the moment the curtain went down and the vocal lyrics started to flow out Phil’s mouth, the thousands of die-hard fans knew that it was going to be an unprecedented experience one would never forget especially if you been a loyal true Pantera fanatic.  

While we will never see the actual Pantera re emerge again, this was a true celebration of the life of this band through the memories, the music, and the legacy of the Abbott brothers gracing the stage alongside musicians that sparked a great evening of music spanning generations of metal fans far and wide.

The Foundry

It comes to no surprise that we can indulge ourselves with finding new ways to discover any new artist’s trying to quickly make a household name for themselves with launching home grown backyard videos in hopes of one day becoming an overnight sensation capping the dream of a headliner tour within a short amount of time.

While music has always been the main driving force with many of us, we always want to do something like a left turn and check out new performers with that unfamiliar brand new sound that makes you want to see what they are all about especially after streaming their music nonstop.

Living in a popular music market gives every artist a chance to win you over with a small performance giving you that unprecedented feeling of how good they are within the first song and that is exactly what I thought after catching the Philly debut of her first major tour with UPSAHL.

Every new artist can be a testament of their talent and how well they win over a live packed show and for a small venue like the foundry; UPSAHL quickly set the stage into a blaze with performing many songs from her EP Debut recordings as well as songs from “The Good Girl Era” (Side A).

For her first headline tour, UPSAHL certainly aimed to please the packed show with her multi- talented skills going from sleek bass lines with her amazing performance to slaying it with the guitar and working the fans into frenzy with belting out twenty three songs in a set list that went like a bolt of lightning.

At the age of twenty three she’s making her mark in the world of pop music captivating fans with her personal triumphant songs surrounding her life history as well as setting the stage on fire with one of the best shows I have seen in a long time from an artist who caught my eye by pure instinct and thought it’s time to discover an artist who is making a name for herself in a quick amount of time, and Taylor Cameron UPSAHL is certainly setting a new wave of fans along the way on her first tour.

A definite new experience with a brand new artist who simply goes by her last name UPSAHL, her music is timeless, upbeat and fantastic while at the same time giving you that mixed emotional ride with brilliant lyrics all packed into youthful songs captivating her experiences along the way.

There is no better way to see a fast rising popular band in a small venue which often makes you feel like your favorite band is performing just for you even if you are closely surrounded by a few thousand or even a sold out venue with the decibels are bouncing off the walls, you still have that mental vision of the band performing just for you.

Perhaps the most exciting element in the world of music is the rich interlude of watching a small baby band develop their own individual styles of music collectively combining all into one great band who call themselves The Winery Dogs who made their world debut in 2012 and put out their first sophomore debut in 2014 and today this band has taken an all new approach in their next level as a band with a great new CD just simply titled with the number 3 on it.

With having to miss out on catching their Philly debut in 2014, and waiting for years later to have them come through once again, it seemed to be a perfect opportunity to see what the buzz was all about.

You can always binge watch videos or stream music for any favorite band, but to get the greatest vibe from a power trio like this comes nothing less than spectacular in an intimate performance right back where they first outshined The Keswick Theatre more than several years prior to their world debut.

While waiting for the show to begin, the power in the venue flickered once twice and then went out, certainly was a definite unexpected turn of an event even before Keith Roth’s band Frankenstein 3000 got the show underway.

Sitting in a dark venue with emergency lights isn’t exactly a thrill especially not knowing if the entire show would be rescheduled or totally scrapped altogether.

Even with almost a forty-five minute waiting in the dark, the show still went on with a short set from Frankenstein 3000 getting everyone in that rock energy mode with a great set even if was cut short.

After a short change over and a few fresh drinks from the bar, I was ready for what people always ask that golden phrased question, you ever see them play before and of course saying no, they give you this odd look like are you crazy this band is great live nothing compared to say a live video clip or some medley of videos on YouTube.

The Intermission lights dimmed a bit and the bands intro started to play, and the entire venue was on their feet with just the opening track from their latest release simply titled Winery Dogs number 3 with “Gaslight”.

Having missed their debut date at the same venue, it was a delight to check out some videos and some tracks from the current release prior to the show but, as they always say nothing ever compares that live surreal exposure to a live band big or small, the intense band to fan interaction is priceless.

With a great set list compiled from different era’s shaping the bands history entertaining many with songs like “Captain Love”, “Desire”, and “Hot Streak” seemingly were many favorites early on in their set.

Although having a new CD and being familiar with it, The Winery Dogs certainly pulled out at least sex new songs within the set “Xanadu”

“Mad World” and “The Red Wine”

Aside of well diverse musicians as they are collectively they absolutely can entertain many to a point in the set during Billy Sheehan’s bass solo he picked up a wine bottle and was actually playing the bass guitar with is, I thought wow, that’s entertainment with a no holds bar attitude rocker style.

Definitely can’t leave out Portnoy’s drumming techniques, just watching him beat the hell out his drum kit while transcending into a sensational drum solo as part of their show, was absolutely amazing, certainly wish more rock bands threw in solos like that more often gives you that mad rush watching an individual with talent like Mike display his talent front and center.

I have to admit never seeing them before and missing them play Philly early on absolutely made up for lost time here with an amazing set, three diverse musicians, and a set list coving a career unfolding with every song, leaves you smiling and feeling energized with emotional joy from sing a great show in a small place like the Keswick.

The Fillmore

It has been another great year for live entertainment and for many of us who thrives on the ultimate experience of capturing their favorite band or bands even for that matter up close and personal is what anyone would call a hard core fan of live music to the finest degree.

For some of us we waited for many great bands to set foot in our backyards and this time around right here in Philly, metal heads had the distinct pleasure of being a part of the “The Great Heathen Army Tour” Featuring the bands first full scale high tech visual production as a headliner which for many of us who waited a long time to see Amon Amarth go into a full over drive show this tour was certainly it.

Along for this amazing tour were three sensational bands crisscrossing boundaries of extreme metal featuring great sets opening the festivities with Death grinder metalers from San Diego Cattle Decapitation playing just six songs to already a packed house at 7 pm.

Next the wait was truly over for Tampa Florida’s Obituary to crush everyone’s mental state of mind. For a band who has certainly shaped their talent throughout their song writings and sheer attitude with sensational recordings dating back to their early days, they should have gone on right before the headliner, however another quick set and a spectacular stage show.

As if the first two bands were brutal enough with short sets, The Fillmore and the extremely packed from front to back we were ready for Carcass hailing from Liverpool UK, again this was your typical tour with a melting pot of music and several degrees of extreme death metal to burn your mental senses.

Not being familiar with Carcass or their music, I thought okay let’s give this band some attention and see just how great they are live and they don’t disappoint.

Opening their ten song set with “Buried Dreams” pulling out fan favorites with the likes of “This Mortal Coil”, “Incarnated Solvent”, and The Scythe’s Remorseless

Swing” After sitting through the bands set I was pretty impressed as having never seeing them nor even have any idea who Carcass is, yet they been around for decades. This tour certainly gives any metal fan the rare opportunity to discover new levels of entertainment.

The Fillmore was sold out to deep capacity to a point if you wanted a drink at the bars with in the opposite directions of the stage, it would take you a long ass time to go from a short walk even for a trip for a bathroom break. Overlooking the balcony at the stage and a sea of people tightly jammed all the way to the stage, we knew it was time for Viking Metal Masters Amon Amarth to showcase their all new stage production and bring to the table perhaps one of the greatest headlining shows to bring Philly’s hardcore fans a show that will burn in everyone’s mind for a long time.

While this Swedish band is no stranger to Philly, seeing them a few years ago with a Viking ship as part of their set was already an eye opener on the Megadeth Tour going back to 2019, this production out beats the semi Viking ship, after all Amon Amarth are true Vikings in metal in their own right.

After four long years the wait was over for Philly to embrace one of the greatest shows that truly gives any metal fan who enjoys the extreme depths of metal from five individuals who bring to the table a whirl wind of songs fast and furious truly captivating both a mystery of a show and a visual spectacle all within under ninety minutes.

As they say some bands can give you a good show and then very few can be a power house with decibels of music than can shake the walls of the Philly’s Fillmore and Amon Amarth absolutely did just that.

Opened their amazing set with three heavy hitters “Guardians of Asgaard”,”Ravens Flight”, and “Deceiver of the Gods”.

Tons of great songs spanning a history career including their new song,

“The Great Heathen Army” which they rolled out in their set for the first time on this tour and that sounded truly amazing even never hearing any of the new material ever.

A history making show with classic songs “Destroyer of the Universe”,

“Cry of the Black Birds”, “The Way of the Vikings”, “First kill” and rounding out with “Raise Your Horns”, and “Twilight of the Thunder God”

As a music fan I have always admired euro metal, many great bands that have never come to America and when a hand full do, they sometimes skip over Philly market, then you think man Philly loves its hard-core metal come bring a solid show here and you will never leave without a smile and that is exactly what Amnon Amarth did for the extremely sold-out Philadelphia show.

There are profound artists that make a staple not just being an outstanding performer but an all around showman that has wowed fans worldwide not just with his charm on stage and party like antics but, his love to bring a unified audience together like a family and there is only one individual known to bring the heat, the excitement, and the unparallel performance of a lifetime center stage is none other Mr. worldwide Pit Bull.

For anyone with a bucket list filled with Artists you have never seen or wished you had seen at some point in your life as a true diehard fan of live music, then taking a major left turn going from say sitting through a band like Slayer or some metal act, and being in the first ten rows in the middle of a hot summer with a sold out venue with Pit Bull bringing his world class show to a whole new level is not only something different then a normal show it’s one big massive party.

When you have seen countless shows spanning different genres, sitting through twenty plus songs filled with pyrotechnics, co2 Canons, and confetti swirling through the air and everyone on their feet the minute Pit Bull came down the stairs center stage and kicked the show into a blissful high energy show it was nonstop party time.

Even with a few songs in Spanish, still Pit Bull can truly entertain a wide variety of generations; his music has that power to bring everyone together like a well knit family of unity.

There are artists who are entertainers and then there are showmen who outperform entertainers in that live setting and that is only one individual who can truly do that Pit Bull.

Two plus hours of nonstop electric energy from a show that tops my bucket list this year with many of the great shows that have come through Camden New Jersey.

The Fillmore

It’s been a fantastic year for touring bands, many of which we don’t always have the opportunity to see live but yet can web search for new exciting videos and live performances that sometimes makes up for the real experience, some music fans settle for that and others being truly loyal to a particular band will make every effort to soak in that live experience.

There are numerous great symphonic bands in the back yards in Scandinavian countries that have made quite an emerging impact with brilliant powerful ballads, soaring guitar melodies, and amazing lyrics combined making the great Danish band known as EPICA truly one of Denmark’s export to the world in music.

For many of us who missed them as a headliner in 2017 on The Ultimate Principle Tour the wait was over as they have returned but this time around supporting Sweden’s Sabaton for a very small run of dates, and not every music market was fortunate enough to have them play but here in Philly we are diehard fans of metal bands and while the power of music is an up lifting experience, being so close to a great band or bands I should point out was nothing short of spectacular.

While we had to sit out for more than two years without music, every chance one gets to relive the past with the present is as exciting as it was then but twice the intense musical melodies that run through our veins while we visually see a stellar band give fans one hundred percent of a great show and that certainly defines EPICA.

I would have personally loved to have seem this tour be a co-headliner with some semi to well known band open and then sit through ninety blistering moments of EPICA

Even before the show even started, the lines were wrapped around the Fillmore; you could feel the energy through the air just knowing what to expect nothing but a fantastic show.

Perhaps we are most intrigued by the melodies this band has to offer or is it the female fronted goddess Simone Simons who carries us away with her beauty and fiery vocals in many brilliant songs captivating every momentous song throughout their nine song set on a few remaining dates with Sabaton seemed like more like a ass whipping two hour set.

Let’s face it we all have certain songs that have become favorites with this band, in reality we don’t always get what we want to hear but even with nine sold songs from a few previous recordings, we still were mesmerized by the vocals, the guitar melodies, and the love for playing for the fans, absolutely priceless moments like this make it all worth it especially being into European bands.

The set quickly got underway with opening with from 2021’s release Omega “Abyss of Time”, the thrill of seeing them play for a short set didn’t matter the fact is that this band is fantastic and can bring the magic and momentum with every song going down the set list.

Other highlights surrounding the amazing set: “Sensorium”, “Cry for the Moon”, “Code of Life”, and “Beyond the Matrix” many sensational symphonic songs with whirlwind majestic melodies and blazing vocals of Simone Simons that create more than just an epic experience in a live setting even not even headlining the show, still pulling an over the top performance at the recent Philadelphia show.

Just for the handful of dates with Sabaton, EPICA seemed to feel like a headliner which they are in their own right mindset, after seeing them just once in 2012 and missing them in 2017, just might be another number of years before they come back and send music fans into ecstasy with brilliant songs, this was one show the thousands didn’t miss, the venue was packed from back to front.

One thing is for sure, for a six piece band they never lost that intensity that makes them a brilliant band live and they do it well as we all had that rare opportunity this time around here in Philly at the best venue to see a band The Fillmore.

The Met, Philadelphia, Pa

The musical legacy will live on forever especially if you adored prolific catalog of music surrounding The Beatles growing up as a kid with the fascination of not just their music but the individuals, they were in the sixties that defines what many of music fanatics recall being the greatest era of music that captivated millions of hearts through lyrics, melodies, and rock anthems that have never lost that musical interlude that always made four individuals great.

Returning to Philly’s The Met since his tour announcement of 2020 when music went silence thanks to the pandemic, was none other than living drummer icon from The Beatles Ringo Starr with his all STARR lineup of musicians for an evening like no other typical concert event.

While The Met seems to be the best place to see just about any show these days, it was absolutely the greatest venue to be in the first 15 rows center stage surrounded by not just older folks who grew up listening to say the Beatles or even Toto but for many who had younger rock fanatics sitting next to them sporting shirts on that had either an album cover from the Beatles or some sort of classic rock design, you have to give props here teaching your children well to soak in the magic of rock at a young age is priceless.

As the venue started to fill up and the massive rush to get in to see the opening set of Ringo and his band mates, was nothing short of stellar, as for my myself never getting first hand to ever see a living Beatle Icon play drums let alone sing a few of his own songs during the set, being able to sit through segments of Toto’s ”Africa”,” Hold The Line” their biggest hit of 1983 and “Rosanna” not mentioning segments of the show also featuring Colin Hay performing his biggest hits from the days of Men at Work, including “Who Can It Be Now” and “Down Under” which absolutely sounded fantastic.

With such a diverse set list and well- rounded musicians we can never leave out Edgar Winter an individual who brought a standing ovation of his legacy of hits “Frankenstein” and “Free Ride” a momentous part of the show putting the spotlight on not just Edgar’s talents behind the keys or sax, but his true passion a classic rocker.

After sitting through two plus hours with nothing but monumental musicians showcasing their sheer talents as individuals alongside of a well-rounded collaboration with Ringo in the spotlight, only one thing leaves your mind fully blown away with a show that certainly out beats, outshines, and truly out delivers music and its finest degree as many leaving the sold out Met with smiles and having that priceless emotional look upon their faces as if to say man there nothing like a show like this, the abundance of rock n roll, please love and music all intertwined together.
