This morning as I woke I needed to hear one of the most played songs on rock radio, Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway To Heaven.” The song is rock history and brought us so many musician that we all know an love. We can still experience the magic of Robert Plant and Jimmy Page performed in Led Zeppelin’s the film The Song Remains the Same. So many artists perform this song but this morning I wanted to hear Mary J. Blige performance of the Stairway to Heaven. The Youtube video below aired on The Oprah Winfrey Show (April 13, 2010) . Then later performed on American Idol’s benefit show titled “Idol Gives Back” episode, joined by Travis Barker, Orianthi, Steve Vai and ‘Idol’ judge Randy Jackson for Led Zeppelin cover.
“I am a Led Zeppelin fan,” Blige told MTV News at the time “I’ve listened to their music since I was a child, and it’s always moved me, especially ‘Stairway to Heaven.’ “
Mary J. Blige’s “Stronger With Each Tear” (April 13, 2010) album, challenged musical expectations with covers of Led Zeppelin’s “Stairway to Heaven.”
In addition, Blige included a seconded single by Led Zeppelin, “Whole Lotta Love,” on the B-side. The songs only appear on the international version of the album. It was released again on April 22, 2010, to raise money for American Idol’s Idol Gives Back.
