With 2018 just one month old, I can assure you there will be a ton of new releases from our favorite artists and bands which had thrilled

us in the past. I am so very excited to hear what this New Year brings with new music.

I left 2017 with a smile on my face. I got to witness a local band open up for one of my favorites I started to follow in 2011. Jury of Fears got to open for Michigan’s own Pop Evil back on November 21st, 2017. That was a night to remember and reminding fans that there was still a lot more to come of them.

With their new drummer Haley Cramer giving Pop Evil a few form of expressive and direction, the album “S/T” due out February 16th, 2018 will thrill their audience with a new sound which is more bold than before.

Take for example the leadoff single from the album “Waking Lions.” It is powerful and ensures Pop Evil is taking risks. Yet, still maintaining a sense of what they can conquered for so long: a message of hope and staying strong throughout life. Lead singer Leigh’s vocals are on point. Then again I hear s sharp “roar” from him which takes the song over the edge….

The beautifully produced “Ex Machina” shows an aggression from Pop Evil which was never displayed before. The song almost seems industrial in a way only the members of Pop Evil can do in their own way. The drums are heavy. The guitar riffs are wicked and the lyrics are honest. I love every part of this song.

“Nothing But Thieves” comes in as a humble and subtle song. Yet, it wakes you up and punches you in the face. The beginning reminds me of a music box but picks up speed as it builds into the musical phenomenon. There is so many layers to this song it takes on its own category and I love how Leigh’s voice is manipulated in different aspects which brings a different element to a great song I would love to see live.

Overall, the new Pop Evil album is making a statement. Pop Evil is here to make rock good and well. I would truly say support this band and their new musical effort when it drops February 16th, 2018. I already have a feeling it will be on a lot of the end of year lists for best album of 2018.
