Expectations/Confessions (1977)

Studio: Vinegar Syndrome
DVD Release: March 12th, 2013
I actually ended up fast forwarding through the sex scenes to get to the plot. The sex is a lot more entertaining in fast motion but I’m pretty sure that’s not how the director wanted his films seen.

Ashanti (1979)

Studio: Severin
Blu-Ray Release: December 11th, 2012
Ashanti is sort of one of the last gasps of the big, bloated, star-studded hollywood action filmmaking of the past. This is probably why the film kind of feels so tired.

Sex Hunter: Wet Target is a sleazy, sleazy film.

Schoolgirl Report #9: Mature Before Graduation (1975)

Studio: Impulse/Synapse
DVD Release: November 13th, 2012
So, we’re at the ninth film (out of fucking THIRTEEN) in the Schoolgirl Report series. By now you should probably know the drill. If not, well, let me get you up to speed. The films are supposed to be a series of shocking exposés on the sex lives of teenage girls. As you can imagine, that premise kind of lends itself to exploitation pretty easily.

I Love It From Behind (1981)

Studio: Impulse/Synapse
DVD Release: December 11th, 2012
I Love It From Behind is pretty much everything that I hope for when I start watching a new Nikkatsu roman-porno. It defies my expectations any chance it can.

Blindness (2008)

Blindness (2008)

Studio: Echo Bridge
Blu-Ray Release: August 7th, 2012
On it’s own terms, the story of Blindness is pretty compelling. It’s ripe with symbolism, there’s lot of drama, what more do you really need? Blindness also has a hell of a cast who give the film everything they’ve got. So why the hell can’t the filmmakers get out of the way?

The Cat Burglar (1961)

The Cat Burglar (1961)

Studio: MGM
DVD-R Release: July 3rd, 2012
Perfectly sleazy low rent B-Noir, The Cat Burglar is no great trail blazer but it’s fun and fast (65 minutes fast) and gets the job done. The plot may seem overly familiar (even if it wasn’t a blatant rip-off of Pickup on South Street) but it lays on the noir cliche’s so thick that it’s hard not to have a good time.

Office Killer (1997)

Office Killer (1997)

Studio: Echo Bridge
DVD Release: June 5th, 2012
One of the ‘90s most underrated genre films gets unceremoniously dumped onto a barebones DVD release by Miramax/Echo Bridge. Directed by noted artsy-fartsy photographer Cindy Sherman, Office Killer doesn’t seem to get a whole lot of respect these days. Certainly the film is not without it’s problems but there’s still a lot to enjoy here.

Eros School: Feels So Good (1977)

Studio: Impulse
DVD Release: June 12, 2012
The filthy Nikkatsu Roman Porno series marches ever forward with Eros School: Feels So Good. And finally the disturbing specter of the rape film rears it’s ugly head.

Django Kill… If You Live Shoot! (1967)

Django Kill... If You Live Shoot! (1967)

Studio: Blue Underground
Blu-Ray Release: July 3rd, 2012
Blue Underground continues to re-release their back catalog of genre titles on Blu-Ray with Django Kill…If You Live, Shoot! I’m assuming that the release of this (and A Bullet for the General) are timed to coincide with Quentin Tarantino’s new film Django Unchained. I won’t lie to you, it does kind of bother me that it takes someone like Tarantino to tell people it’s OK to reevaluate things like this, but I don’t know if we would be getting Blu-Ray’s like this without the extra attention.
